In search of new talent we have been attending many of the weekend Irish point to points and yesterday a group of us were at Bartlemy near Cork. Pictured are Scu, me, Oli, Jamie, Derek and Lea, note the much needed waterproofs and wellies.
A high proportion of our yards horses are ex Irish point to pointers and it is most important that we buy the good ones, young horses with improvement in them and with scope to go on. Through experience, I think that it is important to know the form of the race, and by going to the points we can assess the horses beforehand in the paddock. Not only is this interesting on the day, but we take notes of all of the runners and can keep tabs on them in their next runs.
We have bought four point to pointers in the past few weeks, more details to follow as they arrive in Scotland, and we will be looking for more at the fast approaching Goffs UK sales. If you would like to join us at the sales next Wednesday and Thursday please contact me; I can arrange for catalogues and hotel rooms and can give a list of the point to pointers that are of interest at a variety of budgets.
