Compeller Wins At Perth And A Racing Roundup

The Compeller has caused his owners and trainer some anxious moments, not least when he fell at the first last time out at Cartmel, but today at Perth he rewarded them with a gutsy win in the two mile handicap hurdle. Stepping up in class he was produced by Derek to perfection and won fending off a fast finishing second horse. His owners, WMD Racing are pictured with their winning trophy.

The rest of our runners at Perth were unremarkable. Scales Of Justice is still green although he jumped much better and looked sharper than last time. An error three out put paid to his chances but he should come on for this run. Maraweh was another who was up in grade, but despite sticking to his task he found the quicker pace awkward. Make It Happen did not stay the trip this time, while Devito'sgoldengirl stopped quickly on the home turn.

Earlier in the week Blue Baton showed her inexperience by being over keen then trying too hard and jumping the sand tracks as well as the hurdles. Derek wisely changed tactics and dropped her in to teach her to settle and she stayed on nicely in the home straight. She will have learned plenty.

On to Hexham tomorrow and six runners.

The Banastoir was schooled over fences this week but was still anxious over them and he will gain more confidence back over hurdles tomorrow.

Vinos Choice has his first start over fences and while he is badly off at the weights with a couple, he should enjoy the change to bigger obstacles. He has a nice race lined up at the end of July.

Elmono has been steadily improving over hurdles and he looks to have a good opportunity tomorrow. A horse with a touch of class he should be fine on the good ground.

Chanceiton steps up in class in the three mile chase; he has been a super horse for the yard and Cameron and with a little more improvement could run a big race.

Parker makes his hurdles debut. He has had a wind operation and while he will come on for the experience the team here have worked hard on his schooling.

Finally, Thepensionfund tries a staying track for his second bumper run. He is hard and fit and if the track suits then he should run a big race.
