Double At Hexham For Misfits And Rivabodiva

As the rain poured all day so our horses were in their element and both Misfits and Rivabodiva ploughed through the soft ground at Hexham to win eased down.

Of course, we have plenty of success with good ground horses too but our way of training ensures that our horses are resilient and strong and when the conditions are testing they find it easy. Misfits had enjoyed himself over hurdles last time and his enthusiasm continued today especially when Blair let him storm to the front at the top of the hill. His jumping could still be slicker but he is effective and it was a cosy win for County Set 4 and Keith Hunter.

Rivabodiva, pictured, had also warmed up at Perth and in her own relentless manner, she embraced the conditions. She is a remarkable mare who wears her heart on her sleeve but who seems to be in the best form that she has ever been. This was a higher grade race and possibly her best ever performance.

Her owners, Mark and Susie Russell, nearly had a double when Seven Devils jumped with confidence and led over the last but was just collared in the last few strides. He has come back well from over a year off and deserves to win again.

Le Frank is just starting out over fences and a few slow jumps did not help his cause. However, given time to get into the race he stayed on for fourth and should be a decent type once he gets it all together.

Our fifth placing in the novice hurdle with Ain't My Fault was also a decent effort and the five year old was keen in front and a bit green, not quite staying all the way home. He will come on for this experience and looks a good type for Foresight Racing.

Thepensionfund did not fire, and he was pulled up when weakening coming up the final hill. We will reassess him and he is due a short break.

The huge sadness of our day was when we lost Champagnendiamonds on the gallops first thing this morning due to a heart attack. It is devastating to lose one of the family and moreso when he shows such talent. We were looking forward to him going over hurdles and later fences and being another star for his owners the Two Black Labs.
