It was a full on four days at Doncaster for the Goffs UK bloodstock sales, but we are very pleased with our four purchases.
On Monday Colin and Nicola Drysdale, Scu and I spent the day looking at forty horses on Colin and Nicola's list of potential store purchases. By the end of the day, we had narrowed it down to seven top lots and nine to see again. Tuesday morning we looked at the sixteen and came up with just two to bid on, a Milan and a Shantou.
After a long bidding session, we were delighted to secure the Milan, pictured. Out of a full sister to the Grand National winner Ballabriggs, the loose moving, good bodied three year old is a super walker and very powerful. He will be broken in and enter our pre training routine. He is to be named Thunder In Milan. See his pedigree HERE
Wednesday had a vast array of horses including some talented point to pointers. While many of the pointers have been placed rather than winning, or have taken a few runs to win, I think that this leads to there being value and I believe that we managed to buy wisely. We had the benefit of our vet Eugenio being with us and he scanned and scoped over twenty horses for us, discarding quite a few.
The first purchase on Wednesday, Fyfin Patsy is a mare who we have been following for most of the season. Owned by a friend of Loraine Young's mother, the athletic five year old has improved with every run, finally winning gamely last month. At just under 16.2 hands high she has lots of scope and is from the family of the high class My Way De Solzen; we are putting together a syndicate for her. See her pedigree HERE
Dig In Racing have been looking for a replacement for their game mares Catchthemoonlight and Zaffarella and Anne, Andrew and Thomas from the syndicate were with us walking many miles looking at possibles suggested by Paul McIvor. We settled on the five year old Milan son, A Ladies Milan who was second on his point start a fortnight ago. A half brother to the tough and talented mare Avondhu Lady, A Ladies Milan should give Dig In Racing many happy days racing. See his pedigree and video HERE
On to the last day, and another long list to get through including well bred flat horses and horses with form. The feature of the day was the Grech & Parkin dispersal which included Interconnected who sold for a world record £620,000.
Underbidders on four form horses we finally struck with the five year old French bred Signifiant from Sue Bramall. We have had a super season with Elmono who was similarly from Sue, and this five year old looks powerful and with winning chase form he should be ideal for a new syndicate. Back home before midnight, we are very happy with our purchases. Goffs UK have got the recipe right with a vast array of horses for all levels and the atmosphere over all of the days was super. Hard work but most enjoyable, thanks to the team at Doncaster.
