So I am cheating a bit by writing this the day after the Grand National but, it has been the most incredible twenty four hours.
The confidence behind Arthur was borne out with a confident ride from Derek, done the old way of hunting round for a circuit, then getting into a competitive position crossing the Melling Road. Hitting the front at the last and staying on up that long run in was…
Imjoeking ran a super race over the National fences in the Topham Chase, leading and jumping wonderfully until crumpling on landing five out. He is fine, and we cannot wait to bring him back here next December.
Sky Khan is not yet back to himself but he stayed on in the closing stages and should have gained confidence after this run.
Meanwhile at Sedgefield Miss Joeking was fourth…
Mumgos Debut got his chasing career back on track with a nice win over two and a half miles this afternoon. He is a little awkward at some of his fences but this win will have done his confidence a lot of good and he should be able to keep the progress going while the ground is on the soft side.
Ryalex is also back on his upwards curve and his third place over a trip that is on the short…
A good morning schooling at Kilduff with One For Arthur, Imjoeking, Miss Joeking and Ryalex jumping the chase fences and Sky Khan, Rising Marienbard, and Spoils Of War jumping the hurdles.
Spoils is one of our runners at Carlisle tomorrow where he reverts to hurdles after a below par run over fences. He has had a tough season on heavy going and will appreciate the better ground tomorrow.
Lots of places at Kelso and some nice runs for the future.
Vengeur De Guye is most consistent and while he was a bit low at his fences to start, pictured, he then regained his accuracy. A drift to the right at the last slowed his progress but he stayed on to be second. He deserves to win again.
Bescot Springs continued his revival with a third place. He is much better in a lower…
Scu and I were back over in Ireland today at the Castletown Geoghegan point to point. The going was very sticky and as a result there were some tired horses, and a number of weary falls at the last fence. However, we saw a couple who although they did not win, look to have ability and we will follow them over the next few months.
Today's photo is of Hey Listen who we bought for my father…
A work morning for all and a couple of nice efforts from some of the younger horses. These include Star Of Milan, Dr Hooves, and the handicappers Green Flag, Tantamount, and Superior Command.
Derek was in to ride out, he reports that he feels fitter than ever after a spell in the gym at Jack Berry House and he was fine riding a couple of the stronger horses. He will see the doctor on Monday.
After an intense day yesterday it was back to normal this morning and moderate exercise for all in preparation for tomorrow's work day.
At Kilduff we schooled Ceegem, Gaye Flier, Ryalex, Badger Foot and Hey Listen, and at Arlary the horses cantered three times up the woodchip.
Our two new horses have settled in: Saint Freule is in full work and aiming for the bumper at the Scottish…
A very busy morning on the yard with our press day for One For Arthur and the launch of our yard sponsorship by Edinburgh Gin.
Aimed at the Randox Health Grand National, Arthur is attracting a lot of attention and we decided to hold a press day for all media, after which Arthur can have a peaceful eight days before raceday,
Journalists, camera men and photographers had a chance…
A work day for all the horses and the final bit of hard work for One For Arthur. He is on course for Aintree in ten days and today he flew up the gallops with regular work rider Erin. From now until Aintree he will keep cantering but at a lower level and we will school him early next week.
