Monday mornings are great as we get back into the routine for the week and with fresh horses, the runners performing well and some new faces there is a good buzz about the place.
Some welcome rain meant that we could school and Le Frank, Thepensionfund and Newtown Lad were all ridden by Derek over the hurdles and small fences.
The new four year old Timesawaiting was very fresh…
Our two runners at Newcastle were not impressive; Bescot Springs dropping back in a fast run race, and Star Of Milan being very green and not traveling with the pack as we know that he can. Star is from a late maturing family and will now likely go hunting and point to pointing to give him an education and time to mature.
Scu and I were at the Cheltenham sales where the prices were extraordinary.…
Family honour was upheld as Emissaire won the juvenile bumper nicely for my brother and his good friend and racing enthusiast Alex Nicol. Despite being green and fly leaping in the first furlong, Emissaire was given a confident and educational ride by Blair and he quickened up in the closing stages to win to the delight of his owners and trainer. Emissaire has a lot of filling out to do but it is…
We have just two runners heading to Ayr tomorrow, but both should run well.
Spoils Of War is looking much more confident now that he has sorted out his jumping, and he steps up in grade over his usual three miles. He has been much happier at home now that we have altered his training and he jumps most days with Ailsa, often leading the three year olds or the handicappers or sometimes just…
At Carlisle this afternoon Argentix gave us a lot to look forward to after an extravagant round of jumping (including the sand track) and while a mistake two from home stopped him in his tracks he should be able to win some nice chases this winter on soft and heavy ground.
Vino's Choice took a bit of a step backwards, refusing to settle dropped to the rear of the field and while he looked…
Recent novice chase placed gelding Jump For Dough is for sale in 10% shares.
By Milan, this six year old has won and been placed over hurdles and was fourth on his chase debut at Hexham last week and once he tidies up his jumping he should be a decent chaser. He has lots of scope and no issues and we are looking forward to the rest of the season with him.
10% shares are…
A couple of solid runs from the team today at Kelso and Aintree.
Misfits made his seasonal comeback and traveled well through the two miles, just being caught flat footed in the closing stages. He will improve for this run and should be able to cast his maiden status before long.
Vengeur De Guye found the ground a bit lively and again was one paced in the closing stages. He really…
Rivabodiva tried hard and while she could not quite match the winner over three miles at Hexham this afternoon, her second placing illustrated her new-found consistency; she should be able to return to the winners spot again this season.
We had some promising runs from the others; Grand Morning, third, and Prince Dundee, fifth, have lovely ways of going and while they are both still weak…
Urban Kode bounced back to form under Thomas at Market Rasen when second over two miles two furlongs. We traveled for the right handed track and good ground and were rewarded with a return to his spring race form with Kody showing his usual determination and enthusiasm. He has been a cracking horse for his owners Peter and Susie Brown, John Baird and Tony Evans and he should have more success to…
We had a super win at Musselburgh with the British Racing Club's horse Superior Command taking the two mile handicap hurdle, winning on the line under a driving finish from Derek. Having dropped himself out he looked to be in trouble on the home turn, but Musselburgh suits Superior Command and he loves ploughing on past horses up the straight. Sadly he finished lame and we will see how he is in…
