Two meetings tomorrow with the yard having runners locally at Perth and further away at Stratford.
Mark and Gemma left for Stratford this morning with the juvenile Bab El Mandeb and the handicap chaser Ballycool.
Bab El Mandeb was bought at Goffs UK spring sale having been in training for the flat but unraced. He has fitted in well to our way of life and loves his jumping. It will…
A great morning on the yard and one that makes you feel good to be here. The sun helps, but so does the enthusiasm of our team, which is transmitted to the horses. At Kildufff we schooled the four horses who are due to run this weekend: Devito'sgoldengirl (Blair), Bab El Mandeb (Derek) and Morning Time (Cameron) over hurdles and Ballycool (Maisie) over fences. They are pictured coming in with Scu…
The yard has an energetic feel about it just now with horses trotting and everyone busy. The lads are riding out between five and seven lots a day, including some breakers and our first batch of pre trainers have nearly finished their trotting work. We do a lot of trotting ver poles to encourage the horses to flex their joints and to get them ready for the jump schooling, pictured is the three year…
We have had a few more new additions to the yard over the past week.
On the horse front the French two year olds Hetre Pourpre, pictured, and Flutter Down were picked up from C&C by Jaimie on Saturday morning. Both will have a couple of days in the field before being broken in.
We have been joined by two new riders. Thomas Wilmot has riden in point to points and although only seventeen…
Thorpe pushed his troubles behind and won nicely at Perth yesterday. Having run a better race last time he enjoyed the drop back in trip and looks back to his old self. A colic operation and various soundness issues have challenged him but he is in top form now and should be able to continue in the same mode for his summer owners Michael and Lady Jane Kalplan.
The grey Argentix showed lots…
Urban Kode, pictured, ran his usual game race yesterday to be third in a fairly hot handicap hurdle; it is great to have him back to form after a few below par runs. This was Alex's last ride for us as he is heading South to work for Paul Nicholls and we wish him well. He has been a great asset on the yard and I am sure that his focus and determination will stand him in good stead. In the same race…
The French scouting team of Scu, Jamie, Eugenio and myself has returned after covering many miles and having seen over two hundred horses trot up. We were looking for a two year old with good action and a sound pedigree to break in and have in training next season.
On Monday we were at David Lumet's show where private deals could be done, and though we bid on two horses we were unsuccessful.…
More work on the yard with fifty horses in training or pre-training and still some repairs, painting and upgrading of the facilities going on.
The pre-trainers do plenty of trotting including some work in the school. Pictured is the five year old bumper winning mare Simone who will go hurdling in the autumn. She will have plenty of practice jumping before her hurdles debut but judging by…
We have bought a most athletic correct three year old at the Derby Sales. By the staying sire Goldwell he is out of a flat bred mare whose offspring have shown winning ability and resilience with his half brother winning sixteen races.
This gelding has a super stride and while he has still to mature he has a bounce about him which showed when trotted up. There is a video of him trotting…
Remember the lull? It has all changed now. Back in pre-training today are fifteen more horses, including our recent purchases, and some young horses who should be ready for a good season.
In work this morning were Prince Dundee and Kelpies Myth both of whom are for sale. Dundee is going to be sold in shares; he looks super after time off but is still growing and will be an awesome type when…
